JAXON'S STORY

I love sharing stories from families who were losing hope – and didn’t give up! Jax’s mom shared this with us:

We started noticing a difference in Jaxon’s learning during Covid and something in my mom heart knew that he wasn’t just behind like people were speculating. He was really struggling. Things weren’t working or clicking. He couldn’t read and didn’t know his alphabet. We worked tirelessly with him and it was a very hard season all around with little to no progress and lots of tears. After getting advice from educators and family we got Jaxon tested and found out he had a learning disability. He was set up with an IEP program at his school with an amazing team and began speech therapy. We still felt like we needed more support so luckily (and by lucky I mean an answer to prayer) we met Teresa at Poulsbo Tutoring. When I talked to Teresa she told me “Jax is going to read. We will help get him there.” That was such a lofty goal! I remember getting in my car and crying hoping it would be true because I wanted it more than anything.

FLASH FORWARD to today we’ve been working with her team for almost a year and Jax is reading!!! I repeat he is reading! We still have a long road to go but it is so reassuring seeing this tremendous progress. I’m beyond thankful for all the staff at his school. The Poulsbo Tutoring team worked with his IEP goals and got to work – making the sessions fun, memorable and effective! Jax has loved his sessions – and even though he was sometimes super tired, he was beginning to read! I get tears in my eyes when I think of what an amazing support system he has at school, at home, and at tutoring. This team of his doesn’t just love him they are rooting him on and helping him grow.

This is a picture of Jax on his zoom tutoring call today opening the books and gifts his tutor sent him for his birthday. When they say
Connection Before Content™ at Poulsbo Tutoring. THEY MEAN IT!

There is hope!

If you’re a parent out there and you’re seeing your child struggle with learning, please feel free to reach out to me. I may not have all the answers, but I felt super alone walking through this the past several years and I don’t want anyone else to feel that way.
