5 TIPS TO PREPARE FOR SCHOOL

Getting your students ready for school can be an exciting time, but it can also be stressful. Helping your student prepare can be easier with these several tips:

  1. Start establishing your routine: Start getting your student back into a routine a few weeks before school starts. This includes waking up and going to bed at the same time each day. Creating a place for homework to be completed,

  2. Review any academic materials: Go over any academic materials from the previous year to help your student prepare for the upcoming year. This can include reviewing notes or textbooks, or completing practice problems, especially in math to prepare for the new year.

  3. Set academic goals: Sit down with your student and discuss what they want to achieve academically this year. Setting goals for the first month, first quarter and first semester can be incredibly valuable. This can help them stay motivated and focused throughout the school year. Post these goals where everyone can see them often! Use them to encourage the progress you see as the year gets going.

  4. Get organized: Help your student get organized for the upcoming year by purchasing a paper planner or calendar to keep track of important dates and assignments. We also offer planners for students to use for homework tracking. Some students prefer digital calendars. It only truly matters that your student has a scheduling program that works well for them.

  5. Shop for school supplies: Include your student with back to school shopping for all the school supplies. Their participation can lead to an overall sense of preparedness, organization and excitement for the year. This can include purchasing new clothes, backpacks and organization materials like colored folders, tabs, markers and highlighters.
